JAS President Senator Norman Grant speaking at 11th Anniversary of Eat Jamaican Day

The Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) President Senator Norman Grant speaking at 11th Anniversary of Eat Jamaican Day Exposition on November 25 at the Jamaica 4 H Clubs Lawns has called for the tagging of smaller animals under the National Animal Identification and Traceability System. JAS President, Senator Norman Grant, says these animals include sheep and goats. He said that the tagging of the smaller animals should begin after the tagging of 60,000heads of cattle are tagged under the current programme as an expansion to the current programme by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.

The National Animal Identification and Traceability System was launched on November 13. It is aimed at safeguarding the quality of meat and other products for local consumption and export, as well as deterring praedial larceny which is costing the agricultural an estimated $6 billion annually.
